One thing that I have been thinking about for the guide is the ability to hook into social networks, or instant messengers, to list what someone is watching now. There is stuff like this for Last.FM and this really serves to allow friends to see what their friends are listening to. This would serve the same purpose for Miro in that people who normally wouldn't have heard of Miro would see that their friends were watching interesting things on Miro. So it would be very cool if the api allowed you to keep track of what you were presently watching (only should you want this of course).

As a developer of another Internet TV platform (ToxTox: toxtox.tv) I would be very interested in an open API to the guide database. It would be extremely cool if the API also features functionality for giving feedback on channels (ratings) and search possibilities.

flubio123:
Yeah, that's definitely on my mind. I'm hoping that at the same time as I'm creating the API, I'll be able to simplify some of the database access that the website uses, making the whole experience better.

I think that the most important thing to remember when opening an API is that you make sure it doesn't affect the overall usability of the site and the speed of the database. Remember when myspace started to have addons and crap and it slowed down to something ridiculous? Facebook applications - need I say more? Just remember the focus of the program when opening up your system. That's about it. Thanks :)
